Man oh man. Iowa was great, I'm back and warm in So Cal. I've actually been back for three weeks now. There is no good excuse for my lack of blog entries as of late. I have been working on a new project in my spare time lately, which I'll share sometime soon, I suppose that's my bad excuse. I'll go ahead and give an overview of the last week in particular.
On Thursday, bird and I went to see G-Love and the Special Sauce. They were pretty funky. The best part was the bass players un-canny resemblance to Phillip Seymour Hoffman (see picture). There were also two drummers that dueled for a good 5 minutes... I cryed tears of joy. Fortunatly, the music didn't stop there.
On Friday morning I woke up at 6:06 when the reality of needing to be at the office by 6:00 finally came out of the fog of sleep. The entire office was going down to the San Diego Marine Recruiting Depot for a Marine graduation that morning. The San Diego Marine recruiting depot graduates over 35,000 Marines a year. It is one of two Marine bootcamps. This friday we got to see Golf company, over 500 strong, graduate from the strenuos three month process. Helmets to Hardhats was the honored guest, so we got the royal treatment. A real special treat was the Marine Marching Band. They're great musicians, and have been since something like 1918. It reminded me of highschool. Anyway, Golf company now has a week off until they go to Camp Pendleton to shoot for a few weeks and than it's off to be trained in there respective MOS's. They looked so young. It was a very thought provoking specticle. I'm considering the military now... I'll keep you posted.
Last night I went downtown to see the GTB for the first time since I left the band. They sounded good, and it was great to see everbody. They also happened to be opening for a Bono cover band. The likeness was frightening. I also had a great conversation with two very nice woman at the bar. The conversation was dominated by my explaination of the quircks of my name, but somehow I got some digits out of the deal. What do I do with them now?
Until next time.
